The exterior design of the Amels 60 is by Espen Øino, with interiors by Winch Design, and naval architecture developed in-house by Damen Yachting.
A familiar platform with a distinct interior character
While the platform is well proven, this Amels yacht has its own identity. The exterior stays close to the sharp, geometric language of the series, led by Espen Øino’s crisp profile and the distinctive trapezoidal windows around the owner’s suite. Inside, Winch Design took the yacht in a more atmospheric direction, building the concept around the natural tones, materials, and landscapes of the Pacific Islands.
That design approach gives each deck its own mood. The lower deck draws from forest floors and sand tones, while the main deck shifts toward cooler blues inspired by sea and sky. Timber, stone, leather, plaster, and expressive marble are used throughout to create a warm, tactile setting that feels calm rather than overly formal.
Material-Led Design Across All Decks
The main design story on board centers on softness and continuity. Curved forms, neutral tones, and natural finishes run through the interior of the yacht, shaping a relaxed environment that feels closely tied to the water outside. Rather than relying on visual noise, the spaces use material depth and light to do the work.
One of the motor yacht’s defining features is the central staircase, conceived as a sculptural vertical link through the vessel. Inspired by tree forms and rainforest canopies, it rises through the decks in smooth organic lines and is set against a backlit onyx wall that gives the yacht one of its strongest visual signatures. It is a dramatic feature, though still in keeping with the wider interior language.
This nature-led design thread continues into the beach club and other transition spaces, where carved timber flooring and softer architectural lines help maintain a steady visual rhythm from inside to outside.
Expansive Deck Spaces With Functional Depth
Outdoor living remains central to the Amels 60 formula, and this hull carries some of the strongest features of the series. The standout is the 29-meter sun deck, which ranks among the most substantial spaces on a yacht of this size. It is arranged with a six-person Jacuzzi, bar, shaded dining area, and open deck space that can be cleared for helicopter operations.
That touch-and-go helipad is rated for aircraft up to 3,000kg maximum takeoff weight, giving the deck an extra layer of flexibility beyond its day-to-day leisure role. Further forward, a concealed crane supports tender and waverunner handling, keeping the working functions neatly integrated into the deck plan.
At the stern, the beach club measures 28 square meters and forms a major part of the superyacht’s connection to the water. Linked directly to the staircase and lower deck guest areas, it includes a sauna and opens onto a generous swim platform with both hydraulic stairs and a removable carbon swim ladder for reboarding.
Amels 6009 is arranged for up to 12 guests across six cabins, with room for 13 crew in seven cabins plus the captain.
A Four-Mode System for Different Operating Needs
Performance is another important part of the Amels 60 story. Amels 6009 is powered by twin MTU 12V 2000 M72 diesel-electric engines and reaches a top speed of 15.5 knots, with a cruising speed of 13 knots. With 122,000 liters of fuel on board, her range is listed at 4,500 nautical miles at 13 knots, placing her firmly in long-range cruising territory.
Her hybrid propulsion system adds flexibility across different operating modes. In Silent Cruising mode, the yacht can run at 7 knots on electric drive for quieter passages with less onboard disturbance. Eco Cruising covers the 7 to 14-knot range, using the main engines for propulsion and onboard electrical generation with fuel use carefully managed. Full Power mode draws on the full system - batteries, generators, and main engines - to support maximum speed and full hotel load.
A Period of Steady Growth for Amels
Her progression comes during a busy period for the Dutch builder. In recent weeks, Damen Yachting has confirmed the sale of a fifth Amels 80, delivered the latest Amels 60 Alva, and launched the second Amels 80, Netto II, in Vlissingen.
Now, with Amels 6009 out on trial in the North Sea, the shipyard adds another near-complete yacht to that sequence. For Amels, it is another sign of momentum. For the owner, it means delivery is now close at hand.
