74m Amels 242 Superyacht Synthesis Returns to the Water Following Refit

The 74m superyacht Synthesis has re-emerged following refit works, returning to daylight on April 13 as she moves into the next stage before her redelivery.

Built as the fifth yacht in the Amels 242 Limited Editions series, Synthesis was delivered in 2021 to an experienced repeat owner. She pairs Tim Heywood’s exterior design with interiors by Winch Design and naval architecture by Damen Yachting.

Sea trials are due to follow ahead of redelivery, marking the latest chapter for an Amels yacht that has drawn attention since her 2021 delivery for both her custom layout and award-winning interior.

A Familiar Yacht Returns to the Shed

Damen Yachting has announced that Synthesis has completed yard works and is now heading toward sea trials before returning to her owner. The yard has kept the specifics private but the scope may have ranged from routine maintenance and technical updates to more noticeable layout changes.

Be it a small or big job, we are always happy to assist and welcome our clients back. That so many of our fleet choose to return to us for refit and service work speaks volumes. Our shipyard will always be a place they can call home."

- Graeme Pollock, Fleet Support Engineer - Damen Yachting

Synthesis is one of the better-known recent Amels deliveries, partly because of her distinct setup and partly because she came from an owner with a clear brief. From the outset, this was a yacht shaped around private use, easy long-range cruising, strong indoor-outdoor connection, and guest spaces that moved away from a more traditional formal arrangement.

A Custom Take on the Amels 242

At 74 meters with a beam of 12.46 meters and a draft of 3.85 meters, Synthesis sits on a full-displacement steel hull with an aluminum superstructure. She is built across four decks and was developed around one of the defining ideas of the Amels 242 series - a dedicated owner’s deck rather than a more conventional suite arrangement folded into the main accommodation plan.

In Synthesis, that concept was pushed further. The owner’s deck became a major part of the superyacht’s identity, with private exterior space forward and a Jacuzzi positioned to take in open views. Elsewhere, the layout moved away from the standard formula. Dining and entertaining were arranged across several decks rather than concentrated in a single formal room, giving the yacht a looser and more residential onboard rhythm.

That approach helped define Synthesis from launch. The owner’s brief called for openness, stronger connection between interior and exterior areas, a sizeable pool with easy access to the water, wellness facilities, large tenders, and the range to cruise properly rather than simply move between short seasonal stops. Much of the yacht’s character grew from those priorities.

Key Spaces and Signature Elements

Some onboard details are especially tied to Synthesis and are likely to remain part of her identity after refit, even if secondary spaces or systems have been revised. One is the dedicated owner’s deck itself, which remains a rare feature even in this size bracket. Another is the aft contraflow infinity pool, a feature that gave the motor yacht immediate visual recognition from launch.

The bridge deck helipad is another defining element, as is the substantial tender garage. Synthesis also carries a lower-deck wellness area with features such as a massage room, sauna, hammam, and gym, reinforcing the yacht’s focus on longer, more self-contained use onboard. Across the general arrangement, the emphasis has long been on privacy for the owner while still keeping entertaining spaces generous and flexible for guests.

Guest accommodation remains for 12 across six cabins, with crew quarters for 19. That capacity, together with the scale of the deck spaces and service areas, places Synthesis firmly in the category of yachts built for extended, fully supported use rather than short-hop coastal cruising.

An Award-Winning Interior

Synthesis built a strong reputation soon after delivery. Most notably, she won Best Interior Design, Motor Yachts 500GT and Above at the 2022 BOAT Design & Innovation Awards, an important marker for a yacht whose internal arrangement and material choices were so central to her identity. She was also nominated at the 2022 World Superyacht Awards in the displacement motor yacht category for yachts between 1,500GT and 1,999GT.

That design profile has also helped the yacht reach beyond core industry circles. In 2025, Synthesis drew mainstream attention after appearing in Sydney Sweeney’s social media posts from Greece, with the yacht’s distinctive red-tiled pool becoming one of the most recognizable details shown from onboard.

Inside Amels’ Current Build Pipeline

Beyond Synthesis’ return, Amels continues to maintain steady momentum across its current build pipeline. According to YachtBuyer MarketWatch, the largest yacht database in the world, the shipyard now has nine yachts on order or under construction, largely centered on its Amels 60 and Amels 80 Limited Editions series.

Recent activity highlights consistent progress across both platforms. The ninth Amels 60 superyacht has entered sea trials in the North Sea ahead of delivery, marking another near-complete unit in a well-established series. At the same time, the fifth Amels 80 superyacht has been sold during its early outfitting stage, reinforcing ongoing demand for the larger 80-meter platform, which remains the flagship of the semi-custom range.

At the top end of the order book sits the 120-meter Tanzanite, a full custom project and the largest yacht currently under construction at the yard. Scheduled for delivery in 2026, she represents a significant step in scale, with a 6,083 gross ton platform, dual helipads, and accommodation for up to 22 guests.

With sea trials now underway, Synthesis moves into the final stage before returning to her owner, bringing renewed focus to one of the more distinctive Amels 242 builds. Her reappearance also comes at a time of sustained activity for the shipyard, as a steady order book and ongoing deliveries continue to shape Amels’ position across both series and custom superyacht construction.
