Ferretti Group Secures Approval for €3M Ancona Shipyard Expansion to Build 100m Superyachts

Ferretti Group has secured approval for a €3 million ($3.5 million approximately) expansion of its Ancona shipyard in Italy, paving the way for the construction of superyachts measuring up to 100m (328ft).

The investment will see an existing production hall enlarged at the Ferretti Group Superyacht Yard, which builds yachts for CRN, Custom Line, Riva and Pershing. According to the Central Adriatic Port System Authority's announcement, the work is expected to be completed within six months, increasing the facility's capacity for larger superyacht projects.

Ancona Shipyard Expansion Approved in Just 54 Days

The project received authorization on October 21, 2026, under Italy's Special Economic Zone (ZES) framework, marking the first approval of its kind issued at the Port of Ancona.

The authorization was signed by Giosy Romano, coordinator of the national ZES structure for Southern Italy, and Mirco Carloni, president of the Central Adriatic Port System Authority. The process took just 54 days, with support from Ancona City Council and the Marche regional government.

Rather than establishing a new production facility, the investment will increase the dimensions of an existing construction hall, giving Ferretti Group the infrastructure to accommodate yachts approaching 100m.

The port authority estimates that the project and associated industrial initiatives could generate approximately €30 million in wider economic activity. Carloni also indicated that further significant investments are expected, although no additional projects or budgets have been detailed.

Ferretti's Ancona Facility Prepares for Larger Superyachts

The expansion builds on Ancona's established position as Ferretti Group's principal superyacht production center. Originally founded as a CRN shipyard in 1963, the facility became the group's dedicated Superyacht Yard in 2019.

According to Ferretti Group's official facility information, the site covers 76,945 square meters, including 32,704 square meters of covered production space. Its nine construction sheds are divided between steel and aluminum motor yacht construction and the Custom Line range.

Four sheds are dedicated to metal-hulled yachts, while the remaining five support Custom Line production. The facility also operates a private marina used for testing, launching and delivering completed yachts.

CRN currently describes its Ancona operations as specializing in fully custom steel and aluminum superyachts from 45m to 95m. The newly approved expansion will extend the facility's stated construction capability to 100m, opening the possibility of larger future commissions.

CRN's 86m Flagship Leads Ancona's Larger Yacht Projects

The expansion follows a period of significant superyacht construction at Ancona, where CRN has been developing several fully custom projects. Among the largest is the 86m (282ft) CRN 144, designed by Vallicelli Design with naval architecture developed by Ferretti Group's Superyachts Division Engineering team.

The yard also delivered the 70m CRN Cerulean, formerly Project Thunderball, in September 2026 following sea trials. Designed by Vripack with interiors by Nauta, the steel and aluminum displacement yacht is another recent example of the facility's custom construction capabilities.

Ancona Continues Production Across Ferretti's Superyacht Brands

Beyond CRN's larger projects, Ancona remains an important production center for Ferretti Group's semi-custom yacht ranges. Earlier this month, the shipyard launched the first 39.8m Custom Line Saetta 128. The new trideck model entered the water on September 30, with Ferretti confirming that three units had already been sold.

The launch followed the first Custom Line Navetta 35, which entered the water in May. Four other Custom Line yachts were launched at Ancona during the first quarter of 2026, reflecting the facility's continued activity across both planing and displacement models.

For Ferretti Group, the newly approved construction hall represents a further step in developing its large-yacht capabilities. While no specific 100m project has been announced in connection with the expansion, the investment will provide additional infrastructure for future custom superyacht construction at Ancona.
