Design & Construction
Designed around a displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 13.5m beam and a 3.8m draft. The yacht is built over 5 decks with an internal volume of 2,334 GT (Gross Tonnes).
Construction started in late 2006 with the keel laid under the project name 'Bermuda'. The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards.
Exterior Design
The 78.4m Lürssen Rocinante carries the sweeping, layered profile typical of Espen Øino’s large yacht work. The hull now appears in a pale metallic grey tone with a turquoise bootstripe, contrasted by a white superstructure that rises across several softly tiered decks. Continuous bands of dark glazing run along the main and upper decks, while a long row of oval and rectangular hull windows punctuates the steel hull below.
Forward, the bow deck is unusually large for a yacht of this size. It combines working foredeck space with a raised lounge and spa pool positioned above the main deck structure. The result is a stepped bow arrangement that blends technical and leisure areas without disrupting the yacht’s clean lines.
Moving aft, Rocinante’s superstructure flows upward in smooth curves rather than sharp tiers. Large wraparound windows dominate the upper deck lounge, while the mast and satellite domes sit on a compact technical structure above. The sundeck carries a central pool with glass surrounds, sunpads and seating arranged around the perimeter, creating an elevated outdoor space with open views in all directions.
At the stern, the bridge deck supports a certified touch-and-go helipad capable of receiving an Airbus EC135 helicopter, complete with refuelling capability. Below, multiple aft decks step down toward the waterline where a wide swim platform and shell doors provide access to tenders, diving equipment and watersports gear stored in the garage.
Interior Design
The interior of Rocinante was created by Alberto Pinto and centres on large, light-filled living spaces. Wide windows run along the main and upper decks, allowing natural light to move deep into the interior lounges and dining areas.
Materials play a strong role in shaping the atmosphere. Decorative woods, including zebrano and maple veneer, appear in wall panelling and cabinetry, while stone and leather surfaces add contrast across guest areas. Several spaces use patterned wood inlays that resemble rising air bubbles, a subtle theme repeated throughout the yacht.
On the bridge deck, the skylounge combines a casual lounge with a dining area surrounded by curved glass doors. These open toward the aft deck to create a large indoor-outdoor entertaining area. Elsewhere on board, an elevator links all guest decks and simplifies movement through the yacht.
A full wellness area sits on the lower deck. This includes a gym with a fold-down balcony, a hammam, massage room and beauty salon. The arrangement places the spa close to the water while keeping it connected to the yacht’s main circulation routes.
Accommodation
Rocinante accommodates up to 14 or 16 guests across seven or eight cabins depending on configuration.
The owner’s suite occupies the forward section of the upper deck. Large panoramic windows wrap around the space and open toward a private terrace fitted with a spa pool and seating area. Inside, the suite includes a king-size bed, dressing areas and two separate bathrooms.
Guest accommodation includes several VIP suites with large windows along the main deck as well as additional double and twin cabins. Each cabin follows its own colour palette while maintaining the same material theme used throughout the yacht.
Crew accommodation is arranged for up to 32 crew members plus the captain across dedicated crew quarters. The yacht also carries a hospital facility and large operational spaces to support long-range cruising.
Performance & Capabilities
Powered by twin diesel Caterpillar (3516 DI TA SCAC) 2,717hp engines running at 1600rpm, motor yacht Rocinante is capable of reaching a top speed of 17 knots, and comfortably cruises at 12 knots. With her 246,000 litre fuel tanks she has a maximum range of 6,000 nautical miles at 12 knots making her well capable of long range and transatlantic voyages. She has been fitted with stabilizers to increase on-board comfort when the yacht is at anchor, particularly in rough waters.
Amenities
The yacht features a well-equipped gym, allowing her guests to keep up their fitness regimes at sea. An elevator makes the yacht fully-accessible, while air conditioning offers increased on-board comfort. Rocinante also features a deck jacuzzi for cooling off.
