Delivered by German shipyard Lürssen in 2017, the 123m custom superyacht features exterior design by H2 Yacht Design, interiors by March & White Design and naval architecture developed by the builder. Built in steel and aluminium with a volume of 8,489GT, the vessel stands among the largest yachts ever constructed.
A futuristic profile that continues to stand apart
Few yachts have remained as instantly recognisable as Al Lusail. Designed by H2 Yacht Design, the yacht takes Lürssen's characteristic proportions and reinterprets them through sweeping curves, recessed sections and extensive glazing. While many large yachts rely on sheer scale to make an impression, Al Lusail's identity comes from her distinctive silhouette, which remains as contemporary today as it was when she first emerged from the builder's facilities in 2016. Ranked among the world's biggest yachts in YachtBuyer's YB100 by gross tonnage, she continues to demonstrate how bold design can remain relevant long after launch.
Expansive glazing strengthens the connection to the sea
Large glass façades remain one of the motor yacht's defining characteristics. Stretching throughout the superstructure, the glazing delivers panoramic views while allowing natural light to flow deep into the yacht's interior spaces. The exterior arrangement includes a foredeck helipad, swimming pool, expansive beach club and multiple guest entertainment areas spread across five decks. Side-access tender storage helps maintain clean exterior lines while accommodating a substantial collection of tenders and water toys. Despite her immense volume, the yacht presents a remarkably elegant appearance, with flowing architectural forms reducing any sense of visual bulk.
Vast interior spaces shaped by light and openness
The custom yacht's substantial 8,489GT volume provides the foundation for an interior designed around space, circulation and natural light. March & White Design created a contemporary environment centred around a dramatic atrium, which enhances the sense of openness while reducing the need for long passageways. Extensive tinted glazing further strengthens the connection with the surrounding environment, while carefully integrated colour accents add visual contrast throughout the interior. Accommodation is arranged for up to 36 guests in 18 suites, supported by quarters for 56 crew members, while onboard amenities include a cinema, gym, beauty salon and elevator serving all guest decks. Although Lürssen has not disclosed the scope of the recent works, the refit helps preserve the contemporary character and guest experience that have defined Al Lusail since her delivery.
Engineering credentials befitting one of the world's largest yachts
Built to Lloyd's Register standards, the yacht showcases substantial internal volume and genuine long-range cruising capability. Twin MTU diesel engines producing a combined 15,024hp deliver a top speed of 19 knots and a cruising speed of 12 knots, while a fuel capacity of 500,000 litres provides a range of approximately 4,500 nautical miles. At-anchor stabilisers enhance guest comfort during extended stays, while the yacht's robust engineering platform continues to support global cruising.
Lürssen continues to deliver custom superyacht projects
The return of Al Lusail highlights Lürssen's enduring presence at the very top of the custom superyacht sector. According to YachtBuyer MarketWatch, the world's largest yacht database, the German shipyard currently has 9 yachts in build or on order, underlining the strength of its custom superyacht portfolio.
Among the shipyards most significant recent projects is the 102m superyacht Nixie, a highly customised yacht featuring exterior and interior design by RWD that is currently progressing toward delivery. Another standout vessel is the 122m superyacht Kismet, delivered in 2024 and notable for its advanced engineering, bespoke interiors and extensive wellness facilities. Together, these projects demonstrate Lürssen's continued ability to deliver some of the world's most ambitious custom superyachts.
