40m Bering Superyacht B121 Relaunched After Major Structural Refit at Mengi Yay

The 40m Bering B121, also known as the explorer yacht Familia, has returned to the water following a six-month rebuild that reshapes her layout, capabilities, and onboard systems.

Originally launched in 2024, the Bering motor yacht B121 has been relaunched following an extensive structural refit at Mengi Yay’s Reviva Refit facility in Tuzla, Istanbul. The project, known internally as Project R16, stands out for the scale of intervention carried out within a single refit window

Extending the Hull to Improve Stability and Space

At the core of the refit was a two-meter midship hull extension, a process that required cutting into the structure of the superyacht to insert a new section and rejoin the hull. This modification was carried out to improve both stability and seakeeping, while also increasing usable internal volume.

The structural changes also contributed to a revised vertical center of gravity, supporting more balanced performance at sea. While relatively modest in length on paper, the extension has a meaningful effect on how the yacht operates, particularly for long-range cruising in variable conditions.

Beach Club Replaced With Full Tender Garage

The most visible transformation on board the yacht comes at the stern, where the original beach club layout has been entirely reconfigured. Previously fitted with leisure features including a sauna and gym, this area has been converted into a dedicated tender garage.

The new setup is designed to accommodate one large tender alongside two Jet Skis, with improved access and handling systems integrated into the space. A newly installed starboard-side shell door works in tandem with an overhead crane system, enabling more controlled launch and recovery operations.

Systems, Certification, and Structural Integration

Alongside the physical modifications, the refit included a re-engineering of the yacht’s petrol storage area, bringing it in line with RINA Commercial Unrestricted Navigation certification requirements. This upgrade supports broader operational flexibility and ensures compliance with more demanding regulatory standards.

Additional structural work included the installation of a new upper deck staircase, integrated into the superstructure as part of a wider redesign. The superstructure itself was repainted following the fabrication work, while the motor yacht also received a full exterior repaint to complete the program.

Mechanical elements such as the shell door and crane system were fabricated, installed, and fully tested during the refit period, forming part of a wider package of upgrades focused on reliability and ease of operation.

Core Design Remains While Capability Evolves

B121 retains her original exterior design and naval architecture by Bering Yachts, with the refit focused on structural and functional changes rather than a complete redesign. Onboard accommodation remains configured for up to 12 guests across six staterooms, maintaining her role as a capable long-range explorer platform.

The yacht was relaunched in early April and delivered to her owner later that month, marking the completion of a tightly scheduled rebuild that required coordination across multiple disciplines.

From Refit to New Contracts

According to YachtBuyer MarketWatch, the largest yacht database in the world, the relaunch of B121 comes amid continued activity at Bering Yachts. The yard recently confirmed the first contract for the 33-meter Bering 110 explorer, a model developed with Red Yacht Design that focuses on long-range capability, efficiency, and practical onboard living. Positioned between the Bering 88 and Bering 120, the B110 reflects a push toward compact explorer platforms with extended autonomy.

Further up the range, Bering has also secured the first sale of its 49-meter Bering 165, marking its entry into the large explorer segment. At just under a gross tonnage of 500GT, the five-deck yacht is designed around long-distance cruising, with a 5,000-nautical-mile range and a layout centered on onboard comfort and usability over extended periods at sea.

B121 now returns to service with a reworked platform that shifts the focus toward practicality, range, and operational efficiency. The project also underlines a broader trend, with both refit and new-build activity moving toward more capable, long-range explorer yachts.
