Previously known during build as Project Jassj, the Lürssen superyacht was recently spotted transiting the Kiel Canal en route to the Baltic Sea, where testing of her systems, performance, and onboard operations is now underway.
The update follows Nixie’s public launch earlier this year at Lürssen’s Rendsburg facility, where the yacht first emerged in completed form after her earlier technical launch into the Kiel Canal in late 2023.
A Distinctive RWD Design Takes Shape
Built with a steel hull and aluminum superstructure, Nixie measures 102.4 meters with a 15-meter beam and 3.9-meter draft. Both her exterior styling and interior concept have been developed by British studio RWD, continuing the design house’s long-standing involvement in the upper end of the custom superyacht sector.
Recent sea trial imagery highlights a profile shaped around long flowing lines, extensive curved glazing, and a pronounced flared bow characteristic of several recent Lürssen projects. Her grey hull and dark glazing create a layered visual effect across the superstructure, while stepped exterior decks descend toward a substantial beach club at the stern.
One of the yacht’s most unusual reported features is a semi-suspended glass swimming pool positioned aft, which Lürssen has described as an industry first at this scale.
The foredeck is topped by a helipad, while the upper levels appear arranged around sheltered lounges, panoramic observation spaces, and multiple outdoor entertainment zones. During her launch phase, early renderings and photography also pointed toward expansive exterior living areas centered around a swimming pool, broad sun deck spaces, and a large aft leisure zone.
Five-Year Build Approaches Completion
Construction on Nixie began in 2021 following her reported sale through Moran Yacht & Ship, with the project first publicly associated with the Monaco Yacht Show that same year. She later underwent a technical launch in December 2023 before returning to outfitting ahead of her full public launch in February 2026.
Accommodation is expected for up to 20 guests across 10 staterooms, supported by quarters for a crew of approximately 37. Her gross tonnage of around 3,420GT places her firmly within the large-volume custom yacht category, where internal scale, technical systems, and operational complexity increase significantly compared with smaller superyachts.
The project also strengthens Lürssen’s already significant presence within the YachtBuyer YB100 ranking, which measures the world’s largest yachts by gross tonnage rather than length alone. Based on her reported internal volume, Nixie is expected to enter the list among the highest-volume private yachts currently under construction.
Recent Activity Across the Lürssen Fleet
According to YachtBuyer MarketWatch, the largest yacht database in the world, Nixie enters sea trials during an especially active period for the German shipyard. Earlier this month, Lürssen delivered the 117m superyacht Boardwalk, a six-deck custom project featuring dual helipads, layered pool terraces, and exterior styling by Frank Woll Design. The yacht departed the yard’s Bremen facilities following North Sea sea trials ahead of her first cruising season.
The yard also recently delivered the 114.2m superyacht Nausicaä, formerly known as Project Cosmos, a 6,300GT Marc Newson-designed yacht featuring methanol fuel-cell technology, expansive glazing, and a Skydome observation lounge, while continuing work on major projects including the 101.4m Project Ziggy, recently seen in new construction footage ahead of her planned 2028 delivery.
