Design & Construction

Designed around a displacement ice class steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 11.2m beam and a 3.36m draft. The yacht is built over 4 decks with an internal volume of 1,416 GT (Gross Tonnes). The design also incorporates a touch and go heli-pad.

The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards. Launched in December 2018 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in April 2019.

Exterior Design

Scout is a 63.7m Hakvoort explorer yacht with naval architecture by Diana Yacht Design and exterior styling by H2 Yacht Design. Built with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, the yacht has the stance of a serious long-range vessel, but the detailing is more personal than purely industrial.

The profile is defined by a high bow, knuckle stem and long expedition-style foredeck, all of which give Scout a strong, upright look in the water. In the photo, the hull reads as a very dark grey or near-black, broken by a thin yellow stripe and contrasted by a white superstructure above. The lines are clean, but the proportions are deliberately heavy-set rather than sleek.

One of the yacht’s key visual features is the large sundeck arch, which wraps down into the superstructure and houses functions that would normally sit in a central deckhouse. This allowed the owner to keep the sundeck fully open from front to back, while still incorporating elevator access and a day head.

The deck layout is built around outdoor use. The main deck aft has a large shaded lounge and an enclosed or semi-enclosed dining area that works as a winter garden, helped by heaters and a fire pit for use in cooler climates. The bridge deck aft includes the owner’s terrace and links up to a private greenhouse above, while the sundeck carries a shaded spa pool and broad open lounging areas.

Scout also has a raised helipad on the foredeck, positioned above the tender bay. The bow railings are removable to admit a helicopter, reinforcing the yacht’s expedition capability.

At water level, the beach club sits within a reworked transom and connects to side tender garages and a dive store. Bulwarks are enclosed for the owners’ dogs, which is a small detail but also a major part of how the yacht was conceived and used.

Every detail onboard Scout, from the custom furniture to the imaginative artwork, is designed to create an environment that is as engaging and entertaining as it is comfortable and luxurious.

Interior Design

The interior of Scout was also designed by H2 Yacht Design, led by Jonny Horsfield. It does not follow the usual polished superyacht formula. Instead, the idea was to create a floating home with character, humour and enough variety to remain engaging during long periods on board.

The styling draws on industrial and mechanical references, with hints of submarines, converted ships and old exploration vessels, but the finish is still highly refined. Throughout the yacht, there are unusual objects, custom furniture and bespoke artwork that give the rooms a sense of invention rather than decoration for its own sake.

The main saloon on Scout is the best example. By day it is full of light thanks to floor-to-ceiling glazing, but at night the room changes character through a large circular LED ceiling screen that can display anything from clouds to stars to underwater imagery. Below it sits a highly polished aluminium coffee table with a rippled reflective surface, designed to mirror the movement overhead.

There is no traditional indoor formal dining room. Instead, the main saloon works as a living space, and dining is pushed outward to the decks unless weather forces meals inside. This matches the owners’ wish to live outdoors as much as possible.

The owner’s lounge forward is brighter and quieter, with round tables, skylights, forward-facing seating and a bar concealed within a globe-shaped cabinet. The adjacent pantry is large and practical, linked by lift directly to the galley below.

The interior design also carries through to the art and object choices. Books, nautical antiques, miniature steam engines and collages with mechanical and marine themes make the yacht feel collected rather than decorated.

Accommodation

Scout accommodates 12 guests in six cabins.

The owner’s suite occupies a large private zone and is entered through a library filled with books, objects and artwork. From there, a corridor leads past separate dressing areas and bathrooms before reaching the bedroom itself. The bed faces aft toward the owner’s private terrace, or “puppy park,” which extends the room outside and gives the suite a much more residential feel.

Bubble glass panels, wave-like ceiling detailing and soft materials give the cabin a more immersive feel than a standard master suite. The owner’s terrace also leads up by private stairs to the greenhouse deck above, which functions as a private retreat and gardening space.

Guest accommodation is arranged in four same-sized guest cabins, each given a distinct colour scheme. Mosaic tile details and sea-creature artwork above the beds help set them apart. Large toughened-glass windows bring in strong natural light, and each room has its own ensuite.

Additional accommodation brings the total guest count to 12, while the yacht also carries nine crew cabins plus two staff cabins, allowing for up to 18 crew and staff overall.

Performance & Capabilities

Powered by twin diesel Caterpillar (3512C) 1,575hp engines running at 1800rpm, motor yacht Scout is capable of reaching a top speed of 15 knots, and comfortably cruises at 12 knots. With her 159,000 litre fuel tanks she has a maximum range of 4,800 nautical miles at an economic speed of 12 knots. She has been fitted with stabilizers to increase on-board comfort when the yacht is at anchor, particularly in rough waters.

Amenities

A gym with all the latest equipment allows her guests to keep their workout routines while at sea. Air conditioning offers increased on-board comfort, while underwater lights create a dazzling light display when the sun goes down and an elevator makes the yacht fully-accessible. Crowning the yacht is a spacious sundeck.
