Design & Construction

Designed around a semi-displacement GRP hull and superstructure she features a 7.66m beam and a 2m draft. The yacht is built over 2 decks with an internal volume of 199 GT (Gross Tonnes).

This was the first yacht built on the wallywhy200 design.

Exterior Design

Hard 8 is built on one of the most radical production yacht platforms of recent years. As the first of the semi-displacement wallywhy200 series, she throws away many of the accepted rules of yacht design in favour of a full-wide-body layout that delivers the volume of a much larger yacht while keeping the speed and handling of a fast cruiser. YachtBuyer has toured the model and awarded it 4.5 stars in our hands-on wallywhy200 Review.

The yacht's defining feature is Wally's dramatic 4.7m (15.4ft) high glazed "wow bow". More than a styling exercise, this towering axe bow creates enough internal volume for a spectacular owner's suite wrapped in almost 270° of glass while also helping the hull slice cleanly through waves. Developed with Laurent Giles Naval Architects and Ferretti Group Engineering, the semi-displacement hull combines the comfort of a much larger cruising yacht with the ability to cruise confidently into the high teens and beyond.

A beam of 7.66m (25.1ft) gives Hard 8 a remarkably broad stance, allowing Wally to eliminate traditional side decks around much of the main deck. Instead, the yacht feels almost like a floating loft apartment, with huge uninterrupted interior spaces and wide outdoor terraces replacing the narrow walkways normally found on a 27m (88.9ft) yacht.

The upper deck is another signature feature. A sharply angled glass wheelhouse sits beneath a large carbon fibre hardtop that appears to float above the superstructure without supporting pillars. Behind it, a generous shaded terrace provides one of several outdoor entertaining areas, while the raised bridge enjoys outstanding visibility through its wraparound glazing.

At the stern, Hard 8 makes equally clever use of her beam. Twin side-opening garages disappear into the aft quarters, storing a tender and water toys while allowing the folding bulwarks and hydraulic swim platform to create a three-sided beach club. The result is an unusually large waterside terrace for a yacht of this size, giving guests easy access to the sea without sacrificing valuable storage.

Interior Design

The interior follows the same thinking as the exterior by putting space ahead of convention. Instead of dividing the main deck into smaller rooms, Wally created a full-beam open-plan living area measuring around 61m² (656sq/ft), making Hard 8 feel closer to a modern waterfront apartment than a traditional motor yacht.

Natural teak flooring continues from the cockpit into the saloon without interruption, visually linking the indoor and outdoor living areas. Neutral fabrics, pale timber and understated furnishings keep the emphasis on light and space rather than decoration, while the expansive glazing ensures the sea remains part of every room.

One of the yacht's most impressive engineering features is the one-piece structural carbon fibre staircase. Suspended within a glass enclosure, it links all three decks while also acting as part of the yacht's structural framework. By carrying loads through the staircase itself, Wally reduced the need for additional bulkheads, helping create the unusually open layout.

The main deck also incorporates an owner's galley concept with a show kitchen and informal bar, giving family and guests a social hub without relying entirely on the crew galley below. A separate formal dining area seats eight, while the upper lounge provides a quieter retreat beneath the distinctive faceted glass superstructure.

Technology has also been integrated throughout. A 5G-connected onboard management system allows guests to control lighting, entertainment and many yacht systems from mobile devices, while Naviop integration provides live access to navigation and vessel information.

Accommodation

Hard 8 accommodates up to eight guests across four en suite cabins, with the owner's suite occupying one of the most dramatic positions found on any yacht under 30m (98.4ft).

Located inside the towering glazed wow bow, the full-beam owner's suite enjoys uninterrupted panoramic views through wraparound glass stretching almost 270°. Access is equally unusual, with guests walking between twin his-and-hers bathrooms before reaching the forward-facing island bed. The engines sit at the opposite end of the yacht, helping create a notably quiet sleeping environment despite the extensive glazing.

The remaining accommodation sits on the lower deck, where a generous VIP cabin is joined by two further guest cabins finished in the same calm, minimalist style. The layout gives every guest plenty of privacy while making full use of the yacht's exceptional beam.

Crew accommodation for five is positioned aft on the lower deck with its own separate access. The working galley, crew mess and service areas are grouped together to keep operations away from the guest spaces, allowing the open-plan main deck to remain relaxed and uncluttered.

Performance & Capabilities

Powered by 4 x diesel Volvo Penta (D-13 IPS) 1,350hp engines, motor yacht Hard 8 is capable of reaching a top speed of 21 knots, and comfortably cruises at 17 knots. With her 12,000 litre fuel tanks she has a maximum range of 1,000 nautical miles at 10 knots. She has been fitted with stabilizers to increase on-board comfort when the yacht is at anchor, particularly in rough waters. Her semi-displacement hull design means she offers a great balance of space and speed.

Amenities

In addition, adjoining the water, a beach club lets those on board enjoy the feeling of being close to the sea. The yacht features a tender garage with storage for a range of toys and accessories. Air conditioning offers increased on-board comfort.
