Design & Construction

Designed around a full displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 10m beam and a 2.65m draft. The yacht is built over 3 decks with an internal volume of 497 GT (Gross Tonnes).

Exterior Design

Azteca II is a 49.7m (163.1ft) Nereids yacht from 2005, but her size and layout put her in a more rare group than her length alone suggests. The key figure is her beam. At 10m (32.8ft), she is unusually wide for a sub-50m yacht of her era, and that width shapes nearly everything on board. It gives her a full 497GT of volume, large deck spaces and a layout that feels closer to yachts several metres longer.

Michael Leach Design gave Azteca II a profile that hides much of that bulk. Leach later became known for yachts such as the 110m (361ft) Feadship Anna and Blohm+Voss's highly distinctive superyacht Palladium, and many of the traits associated with his work are already present here. Long horizontal lines, dark bridge deck glazing, soft curves around the upper decks and a raked mast draw the eye fore and aft rather than up and down. The result is a high-volume yacht that still reads as sleek from the water. Her white hull, long foredeck and rounded superstructure place her firmly in the early-2000s northern European design school, though she was built in Turkey.

The foredeck carries the tenders and toys, which is an important part of the yacht’s design logic. Modern yachts often hide tenders in side garages, but that can take space from guest cabins or beach club volume. Azteca II keeps the tender load forward, which frees up the aft section for leisure use and helps explain how she can offer a reported 100m² (1,076ft²) beach club while still carrying six guest cabins.

That beach club is one of her most forward-looking features. In 2005, many yachts of this size still had a swim platform and a lazarette rather than a true waterside lounge. Azteca II’s aft volume gives guests a much larger space at sea level, with direct access to the water and the toys. It is the kind of feature that became common years later, but here it sits within a more formal, classic yacht layout.

The deck plan has a clear hierarchy. The bridge deck aft is the main outdoor dining space, covered and sheltered, with fixed seating aft. Above, the sundeck has a large sunbathing area forward, a round Jacuzzi for six and a shaded midships zone with loose furniture aft. The foredeck remains more workmanlike, with space for the 35ft centre console tender and water toys, but it also gives the yacht a strong expedition-ready feel.

Interior Design

Azteca II’s interior is between two eras. The original structure belongs to the early 2000s, with dark polished timber, formal dining and clear room-by-room use. Later updates soften that feel with lighter fabrics, pale upholstery and a more relaxed beach house mood.

The main saloon and dining room sit on the main deck. The saloon has deep sofas, warm wood panelling, low tables and a baby grand piano, giving it the feel of a formal yacht lounge rather than a loose open-plan loft. Forward, the dining area seats 10 around a polished table, with high-gloss joinery and display cabinetry giving the space a more traditional tone.

Azteca II was built at a time when large yachts still tended to offer distinct hosting zones. Guests could dine, sit, watch a film or move outdoors without every space bleeding into the next. Today’s 50m yachts often favour open-plan living, but Azteca II’s room-by-room layout gives the yacht a sense of privacy and order.

The bridge deck skylounge is lighter and more casual. It has broad windows, pale flooring, light cabinetry and large navy sofas, which help break away from the darker main deck. The brochure describes the interior as modern beach house style, and the skylounge is where that phrase makes the most sense. It feels more laid-back and better suited to long afternoons at anchor.

Accommodation

Azteca II accommodates 12 guests in six cabins, with space for 12 crew.

The owner’s suite is on the main deck and spans the full beam. That was a strong layout choice in 2005 and remains one of the yacht’s key strengths. The suite has large windows, a desk area, a dressing space and a bathroom with a large bath, detailed stonework and rich timber joinery.

The lower deck includes a full-beam VIP suite and four further guest cabins. This is where the 10m (32.8ft) beam pays off again. Many yachts of this age split the widest lower-deck section into two side-by-side cabins. Azteca II instead gives the VIP suite the full beam, creating a second principal cabin that works well for charter groups, families or co-owners.

The remaining guest cabins are arranged as two doubles and two twins. The yacht’s cabin plan totals four doubles and two twins, with each space carrying the same polished woodwork, cream carpets and ensuite bathrooms. The feel is more traditional than minimalist, but the cabins have good warmth and a strong sense of build quality.

Crew space for 12 supports the yacht’s charter use and the wide spread of guest areas, from the beach club to the bridge deck dining area, skylounge and sundeck.

Performance & Capabilities

Powered by twin diesel Caterpillar (3512 B) 12-cylinder 2,247hp engines, motor yacht Azteca II is capable of reaching a top speed of 17 knots, and comfortably cruises at 16 knots. With her 110,000 litre fuel tanks she has a maximum range of 5,400 nautical miles at 12 knots. She has been fitted with stabilizers to increase on-board comfort when the yacht is at anchor, particularly in rough waters.

Amenities

The yacht features a well-equipped gym, allowing her guests to keep up their fitness regimes at sea. Air conditioning offers increased on-board comfort. Azteca II also features a deck jacuzzi for cooling off.
