Introducing the Nimbus 495 Coupé Designed for Year-Round Use

Nimbus Boats has revealed the new Nimbus 495 Coupé, a fully enclosed version of its established 495 platform, developed specifically for long-range, owner-operated cruising.

The model marks a return to Nimbus’s Coupé roots, prioritizing protection, interior living quality, and year-round usability over open-air amenities. The 495 Coupé will be presented digitally at Boot Düsseldorf 2026, with first customer deliveries scheduled for 2027.

Rooted in Nimbus Coupé Heritage

The Coupé concept has been central to Nimbus since the brand’s founding in 1968. Enclosed cruisers such as the 320, 305 Coupé, 365 Coupé, and 405 Coupé shaped how Scandinavian owners cruise coastal waters, providing shelter when conditions deteriorate while remaining adaptable in fair weather.

At just under 15 meters, the 495 Coupé is the largest and most developed expression of that lineage. According to Nimbus, the platform was conceived with the Coupé in mind from the outset. While the Flybridge variant reached the market first to satisfy demand in certain regions, the enclosed version represents the more natural evolution of the design.

Nimbus also draws a clear distinction between Coupé and Flybridge owners. Coupé boat buyers tend to value time aboard over exposure, measuring cruising plans in weeks rather than weekends. These owners prioritize interior comfort, protection, and a boat that remains usable well beyond peak summer months, rather than viewing the Flybridge as a desirable option.

What the Coupé Layout Delivers

Removing the flybridge reshapes the 495 in ways that directly serve extended cruising. The most immediate impact is in the saloon, where the absence of an upper structure allows for a significantly larger glass sunroof. Natural light fills the main living space of the boat, reinforcing a defining trait of Nimbus Coupé models while pushing it further than before.

Managing heat and glare in warmer climates is addressed through a new exterior electric awning system mounted above the roof glass. The canopy deploys at the touch of a button, shading the saloon while preserving ventilation through open skylights. The approach allows the interior of the yacht to remain bright without becoming oppressive under strong sun.

The galley also benefits from the layout change. On the Flybridge version, the port side accommodates the staircase to the upper deck. On the Coupé, that space returns to the kitchen, delivering additional counter space, improved storage, and a layout that comfortably supports two people working at once.

Nimbus will offer a mahogany interior option for owners drawn to a more traditional atmosphere. Paired with a new oak sole and coordinated upholstery, it references the classic Scandinavian cruising character found in earlier enclosed Nimbus models, without departing from modern functionality.

Practical Storage and Self-Sufficiency

Several changes focus squarely on everyday usability. Where the flybridge stairs once stood, the Coupé introduces a dedicated aft deck wardrobe for wet jackets, boots, and foul-weather gear, keeping practical cruising equipment separate from living and sleeping areas.

With the roof freed from flybridge structures, the 495 Coupé can also accommodate additional solar panels. While solar power does not replace high-demand systems such as air conditioning, it extends time at anchor without generator use, supporting quieter and more independent cruising.

The recessed area created by the foldable mast housing is used as functional roof storage, suitable for life rafts, paddleboards, inflatable tenders, and other equipment best kept outside the interior environment.

Designed to Be Owner-Operated, Built for Real Conditions

Bridge clearance remains a major driver behind Coupé demand. With its electrically foldable mast, the Nimbus 495 Coupé achieves an air draft under 3.5 meters, opening access to European canal systems, inland waterways, and the locks connecting them. The configuration also supports North American inland routes, including the Great Loop. A shortened bathing platform option further reduces overall length below 14 meters, broadening marina and registration flexibility.

The motor yacht is designed to be owner-operated without crew. Sightlines, side door placement, and control systems support confident single-handed handling, while joystick control, assisted docking, and Dynamic Positioning reduce workload during close-quarters maneuvers. Wide side decks and tall guardrails support safe movement underway.

Beneath the layout, the Coupé shares the Flybridge’s engineering foundation. The vacuum-infused hull with Divinycell core and four structural bulkheads delivers a stiff, quiet structure intended for extended passages and imperfect conditions rather than fair-weather cruising alone.

How the 495 Platform Has Performed Under YachtBuyer Testing

YachtBuyer has already completed a full sea trial of the Nimbus 495 Flybridge, awarding it a 4.5-star rating. The YachtBuyer review provides useful context for prospective 495 Coupé buyers, as both models share the same underlying platform and engineering.

During testing off Mallorca, the 495 Flybridge proved calm and predictable around the dock, with joystick control, clear sightlines from the lower helm, and a well-placed starboard side door supporting confident short-handed operation. At sea, the boat settled comfortably into a 22 to 25 knot cruising rhythm and remained composed up to wide open throttle at around 28 knots, with a hull shape tuned to limit heel in turns.

The 495 Flybridge narrowly missed induction into the YachtBuyer Hall of Fame, which is reserved for yachts that achieve a full YB 5 Star score through YachtBuyer’s independent, self-funded sea trials and category-based scoring.

The Nimbus 495 Coupé will be presented digitally at Boot Düsseldorf 2026, with a 495 Flybridge on display at the Nimbus stand. The design team will be available to discuss the Coupé variant in detail ahead of deliveries beginning in 2027.
