Evealed during the Palm Beach International Boat Show 2026, the order marks Alcaraz’s entry into yacht ownership and adds another sports figure to Sunreef’s expanding circle of high-profile clients.
A Yacht Designed for Time Off the Court
For Alcaraz, the move into ownership has developed gradually. Speaking to the yard, he explained that his interest in yachts has grown over the past two years, driven by how comfortable he feels on the water and his proximity to the sea in Murcia.
As athletes, we expose ourselves all the time to people, to pressure, and to thousands of eyes watching us... Being on a boat gives that place to relax and just enjoy with close people, without thinking about anything else.”
The decision ultimately centers on downtime. Alcaraz described the yacht as a place to step away from the intensity of professional tennis, where he can relax, spend time with family and friends, and disconnect from the constant pressure of competition.
Why The Ultima 88 Fit The Brief
Sunreef has positioned the Ultima 88 as a strong match for Alcaraz’s lifestyle. During its presentation, the shipyard described the model as well suited to younger, active owners who want to stay closely connected to the water while maintaining strong performance and onboard space.
That balance was central to Alcaraz’s decision. He pointed to the combination of comfort, stability, and usable space as key factors, alongside the catamaran’s ability to support both relaxation and more active use.
“I think it suits me pretty well,” he said. “You can have fun at the same time as you want to relax; you can do both.”
The shipyard also noted that Alcaraz favors a style of yachting that involves moving quickly between destinations, exploring freely rather than staying in one place. The Sunreef Ultima series, described as faster and easier to handle in tighter marina environments, was presented as a practical fit for that approach.
The 'Ocean Lounge' and Aft Design
The Ultima 88 has been developed with an active, water-focused layout, with much of the design centered around the stern. The Ocean Lounge forms the core of this space, supported by a large garage, hydraulic platform, and unfolding side terraces that create a broad leisure area at the waterline. This setup provides direct access to Jet Skis and other water sports equipment, reinforcing the yacht’s role as a platform for time on the water rather than just a cruising vessel.
Accommodation is arranged across five staterooms in total, including four guest cabins and a full-beam owner’s suite positioned forward on the main deck. This suite is designed to maximize natural light and includes a large bathroom with a bathtub, creating a private space separate from the guest areas.
The flybridge adds further outdoor living space, with room for relaxation and al fresco dining, while the wider layout emphasizes open connections between interior and exterior areas.
Early Decisions Shape a Personal Project
Alcaraz’s involvement in the superyacht began before the contract was signed. According to the supplied material, he visited Sunreef’s shipyard in Gdansk, where he toured the facilities, met the design team, and reviewed the construction process.
He described the visit as exceeding expectations, adding that seeing how the yachts are built made the experience more personal. The process has also included early input on interior styling, with Alcaraz working alongside Sunreef’s in-house team to select materials, colors, and furniture. “It was the closest to designing a home that I have ever been,” he said.
The project remains at an early stage. The yacht has not yet been named, and final layout and specification details are still being refined ahead of a planned 2027 delivery.
A Growing Network Of Owner-Ambassadors
The new build places Alcaraz alongside fellow athletes including Rafael Nadal, Fernando Alonso, and Robert Lewandowski, all of whom have commissioned Sunreef yachts. According to the shipyard, these relationships begin with owners searching for a yacht that fits their lifestyle, rather than through direct endorsements.
Each yacht in the range is presented as suited to a different type of owner, with the Ultima line positioned around speed, access to the water, and active use. Within this context, Alcaraz is framed as a natural fit - a younger owner seeking a yacht that supports both relaxation and movement, with a strong focus on time spent close to the sea.
As Sunreef continues to expand its 'House of Sunreef', the Ultima 88 project stands as another example of how those relationships are taking shape - not as uniform partnerships, but as individual builds driven by how each owner wants to use their time on board.
According to YachtBuyer MarketWatch, the largest yacht database in the world, the Ultima 88 is the second largest catamaran in the Sunreef Ultima Range. It sits just below the 36m Ultima 111, but above the 24m Ultima 77, the 22m Ultima 66, and the YachtBuyer-reviewed 17m Ultima 55.
