Design & Construction
Designed around a displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 18m beam and a 4m draft. The yacht is built over 4 decks with an internal volume of 6,300 GT (Gross Tonnes).
Construction started in early 2022 with the keel laid under the project name 'Cosmos'. The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards. Launched in March 2023 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in March 2026.
Exterior Design
At 114.2m (375ft), Nausicaä abandons almost every convention that defines a modern superyacht. Designed entirely by industrial designer Marc Newson, the yacht rejects stacked decks, sharp creases and aggressive styling in favour of a continuous sculptural form where hull and superstructure appear to merge into a single object.
The metallic-grey hull sits beneath deep bands of reflective glazing that wrap around the yacht like a visor, while the near-vertical bow pushes volume forward without making the yacht feel heavy. A perfectly straight sheerline runs cleanly from stem to stern, which adds to the extraordinary sense of scale and length.
Amidships, a huge glazed Skydome rises from the deck as one of the yacht’s defining visual features. Inside, the layout includes a split-level gallery and a multipurpose observation lounge built into the bow, which gives Nausicaä a character closer to a private exploration platform than a conventional superyacht. The upper decks step subtly aft beneath uninterrupted glazing, adding to the sleek, futuristic look.
Above, oversized spherical domes surround a sculpted mast arrangement that feels more aerospace than something seen on a yacht. On the upper deck aft, a jacuzzi and pool carry the owner’s initials set into the floor.
The engineering carries the same level of originality. Rather than adapting an existing tender, Lürssen developed a custom 12.5m (41ft) sportfish specifically for Nausicaä's enclosed dry dock. Its dimensions, weight distribution and hull form were engineered around the yacht's hydraulic launch mechanism, allowing the tender to be stored, launched and recovered within the hull while preserving the yacht's exterior lines. Her hull also meets Ice Class 1D standards, which gives the yacht serious long-range cruising capability alongside the radical design.
Interior Design
Nausicaä's interior follows the same philosophy as the exterior. Rather than adapting conventional yacht layouts, Marc Newson rethought how a vessel with 6,593GT of internal volume could be organised.
The centrepiece is a double-height gallery atrium that replaces the traditional main-deck formal saloon. Designed around the owner's private art collection, the space functions as both a circulation hub and exhibition gallery. A circular upper-level viewing gallery allows artwork and sculptures to be viewed from multiple angles, creating a sense of scale rarely found aboard a yacht.
Above, the 56m² (603ft²) Skydome owner's study provides one of the most distinctive private spaces at sea. The curved glazing creates an uninterrupted connection with the surrounding environment while placing the owner at the visual centre of the yacht.
The upper deck takes a different approach to social space than most large yachts. Instead of formal lounges arranged around symmetrical seating groups, the design incorporates specialised entertainment areas, including an upscale sushi bar and sculptural lounge spaces integrated into the architecture itself.
The bow observation lounge further demonstrates the project's unconventional thinking. Located beneath the helipad and behind ultra-thick structural glass, it creates a viewing experience unavailable on conventional yachts. Guests can watch the sea directly ahead while remaining enclosed within the yacht.
Accommodation
Nausicaä offers accommodation for up to 18 guests in 9 suites. She is also capable of carrying up to 36 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience.
Performance & Capabilities
Nausicaä uses a diesel-electric propulsion system built around five generators that supply power to electric Azimuth pods, supported by a substantial 2MW battery bank. This arrangement removes the need for traditional direct-drive shaft lines, which provides greater flexibility in machinery placement and helps free up volume for guest areas and technical spaces.
Twin 500kW fuel cells convert methanol into hydrogen onboard, allowing silent, zero-emission operation in hotel mode and low-speed cruising without relying on the diesel generators. Under fuel-cell power, Nausicaä can cruise at up to 7 knots for approximately 1,000 nautical miles, making it one of the most advanced alternative-fuel systems yet installed on a private yacht of this scale.
