Design & Construction

Designed around a deep vee GRP hull and superstructure she features a 7.05m beam and a 1.8m draft. The yacht is built over 2 decks.

Exterior Design

Cookie Monster is a Viking 92SB, and the Sky Bridge layout is the part that gives her away straight away. The enclosed bridge sits high above the main deck, while a second open helm is carried above it beneath the tower structure. That gives the yacht two very different command positions without turning the upper part of the boat into another full accommodation deck.

Cookie Monster has a tall, stacked profile, with the enclosed bridge, sky bridge and tower all rising well above the main deck. The long bow and deep forward sections give the hull real presence, while the open cockpit aft keeps the fishing end of the yacht visually separate from the accommodation above.

The cockpit is the important bit. This is not a motor yacht with fishing gear added to the stern. Viking built the 92 around serious offshore use, so the aft deck is kept low, open and close to the water, with the sightlines from the bridge and sky bridge designed around that job.

The enclosed bridge below gives much better protection in poor weather and adds another indoor social area, while the open sky bridge above restores the visibility and feel of a conventional convertible. That combination is why the 92SB existed in the first place.

Model heritage matters here too. The 92 sat at the top of Viking's sportfishing range and was the builder's largest sportfisher at the time, so Cookie Monster comes from a platform designed to bridge the gap between a tournament boat and a much larger cruising yacht.

Accommodation

Cookie Monster accommodates up to eight guests in four suites.

The arrangement comprises an owner's cabin, one VIP cabin, one additional double and one twin. That gives the yacht a straightforward family and guest layout without pushing the lower deck towards the higher cabin count found on some other Viking 92SBs.

The four-suite setup also makes Cookie Monster a little different within the model line. The standard platform was capable of carrying more cabins, so this yacht appears to use some of that volume for larger rooms or more generous circulation rather than squeezing in every possible berth.

Performance & Capabilities

Twin Caterpillar C32 ACERT diesels producing 1,925hp each give Cookie Monster a top speed of around 38 knots, with a cruising speed of about 30 knots.

Those figures are right in keeping with the sportfishing side of the brief. Cookie Monster is fast enough to cover serious distance quickly, but the hull and deck plan are still built around offshore fishing rather than pure high-speed cruising.

The Sky Bridge helps here too. The open helm gives excellent height for reading the water and spotting fish, while the enclosed bridge below keeps navigation and watchkeeping comfortable when the weather turns.

The wider Viking 92 platform was eventually replaced by the Viking 90SB, but the underlying idea stayed much the same: keep the speed, cockpit and helm setup of a serious sportfisher, then add the comfort and living space expected from a much larger yacht.
