Design & Construction
Designed around a full displacement GRP hull and superstructure she features a 8.99m beam and a 2.51m draft. The yacht is built over 3 decks with an internal volume of 499 GT (Gross Tonnes).
Construction started in early 2005 with the keel laid under the project name 'Lady Joy II'. She was delivered to her owners in August 2007.
Exterior Design
Lady Joy is a 47.9m (157ft) Christensen motor yacht, delivered in 2007 as part of the Christensen Custom Series, built in composite fibreglass using a foam-cored structure. This construction reduces weight while increasing rigidity and insulation, and it also helps limit vibration and onboard noise.
The yacht has a semi-displacement hull with a bulbous bow, and the profile follows a clear, structured line. The topsides rise high at the bow with a series of large oval windows, and then step down into a straighter sheer that runs cleanly toward the stern. Long horizontal bands of glazing sit within the superstructure, while the deck levels stack in a tiered arrangement that projects forward in stages, creating a stepped, overhanging look toward the bow.
The overall form is balanced rather than aggressive, with smooth transitions between volumes and a consistent white finish across hull and superstructure. The geometry relies on defined edges and clean surfaces rather than heavy sculpting, so the profile reads clearly at distance.
Deck spaces are arranged across four levels, and they are set up for large-group use as well as private cruising. The main deck aft is sheltered and fitted with lounge seating, dining and a bar, while the upper deck aft extends this with a covered alfresco dining area connected directly to the skylounge.
Forward on the upper deck there is additional seating and sunpad space, while the sun deck carries the main open-air layout. This includes a hot tub forward, a central bar and lounge area, and an aft sunbathing section, with circulation kept simple between zones.
At the stern, a wide bathing platform sits at water level and connects to the main deck via an internal staircase, so access remains protected from the elements. The transom also links directly to the lazarette and watersports storage, supporting the yacht’s use for diving and tender operations.
Interior Design
The interior of Lady Joy was developed by Carol Williamson & Associates, with direct input from the owner, and it follows a fully custom brief shaped around residential comfort rather than a standard yacht layout. The structure remains traditional, while the finish relies on layered materials, soft furnishings and decorative detail to create a warmer, more domestic feel.
Wood panelling runs throughout the main spaces, paired with light carpets and a wide mix of upholstery across sofas, armchairs and window treatments, so each area carries its own identity while staying within a consistent palette. Drapes, carpets and soft seating play a central role in the layout, and they are combined with decorative furniture pieces rather than built-in minimal forms.
In the main saloon, seating is arranged around a central coffee table facing a television, while the dining area sits separately to maintain a more formal setting. Large windows run along both sides, bringing in natural light and opening views out from both seating and dining positions.
A central foyer connects the decks, built around a semi-circular staircase and a lift that serves all four levels. This core also includes a day head and provides direct access into the main deck master suite.
The upper deck skylounge adds a second interior living space, fitted with sofas, a games table and a large marble-topped bar, while direct access aft leads to a covered exterior dining terrace. Forward of this level, the wheelhouse includes a dedicated guest area, with wide forward glazing.
Accommodation
Lady Joy accommodates up to 12 guests across 6 cabins, with additional space for a nanny cabin, and crew accommodation for 8 crew in 4 cabins.
The main deck master suite sits forward and includes a private office, a central double bed, and separate his-and-hers areas within the bathroom. Two walk-in wardrobes and a large en suite complete the layout, with the bathroom arranged around dual vanity units, a bathtub and a walk-through shower.
Guest accommodation is located on the lower deck and arranged around a central foyer, with a mix of cabin types:
- One VIP stateroom with king bed
- Two aft staterooms with king beds (port and starboard)
- Two forward cabins with double beds plus single and Pullman berths
- Two twin cabins positioned forward
Each cabin includes an en suite bathroom and wardrobe storage, while a dedicated service corridor allows crew to access guest areas without crossing primary circulation routes.
Crew quarters are positioned forward and include a crew mess, crew galley, laundry and four cabins with Pullman berths, connected directly to the main galley via an internal staircase.
