Design & Construction
Designed around a full displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 9.3m beam and a 3.1m draft. The yacht is built over 3 decks with an internal volume of 614 GT (Gross Tonnes). The design also incorporates a heli-pad.
She was delivered to her owners in January 1988.
Exterior Design
Ice Bear presents a classic Feadship profile with a long, balanced sheerline and a pronounced raked bow that gives the yacht a purposeful stance underway. The white hull and superstructure sit over a thin blue boot stripe, so the look stays clean and restrained, while the length is broken up by horizontal bands of glazing and portholes.
The most distinctive element is the tall crow’s nest mast, rising high above the bridge to give a clear vantage point for navigation in shallow or reef-strewn waters. This elevated control position links back to sportfishing practice, but here it supports safe long-range cruising and precise pilotage.
Deck spaces lean toward function over leisure. Wide walkaround side decks with solid guardrails allow safe movement forward, while the foredeck hides a large tender hangar beneath a hydraulically lifting section. This mechanism raises the deck vertically to reveal two tenders stored out of sight and protected from the elements, then lowers flush again to restore a clean working deck.
Aft, the yacht carries a large open deck with direct access to the boat deck above. A crane supports tender handling, while the upper levels include a sheltered observation area and a fully enclosed bridge deck lounge. Teak is used across key exterior surfaces, chosen for grip and durability rather than visual effect.
Interior Design
The interior follows a traditional, service-driven layout shaped around heavy guest use. Materials lean toward durability, with extensive use of granite over softer stone, along with wool carpets and solid timber joinery. The finish centres on cherry wood, which runs through bulkheads, cabinetry, and structural detailing.
The observation lounge is a focal point. Full-height wraparound glazing opens the space to the horizon, while a raised seating arrangement, leather armchairs, and a marble-topped bar create a space that works equally well during the day or at night. A dayhead sits aft, so the area functions as a self-contained social zone.
Below, the main saloon is arranged to handle large groups. Multiple seating clusters sit around a central area, supported by a substantial bar integrated into the aft section. Forward, the dining room stands out for scale, with a large circular table designed to seat far more guests than the sleeping layout suggests. A ceiling feature mirrors the table below, while concealed storage within the joinery supports formal service.
The bridge deck sky lounge offers a more private setting. Glazing on three sides brings in light, while a U-shaped sofa faces forward toward a large screen. Satin-finished wood and column details give the space a formal tone, but the layout remains practical for extended time onboard.
Accommodation
Superyacht Ice Bear accommodates up to 10 guests across five cabins, with space for up to 11 crew. The owner’s suite sits forward on the main deck and uses the full beam of the hull. The bed is offset to port, while a private office sits to starboard. Large windows bring in light, and the en suite arrangement splits into his-and-hers bathrooms, each with a bath, joined by a shared central shower.
Guest cabins are arranged on the lower deck. Two double cabins sit to port and two twin cabins to starboard, all en suite with bath and shower combinations. The layout keeps each cabin equal in function, which suits charter or mixed guest groups.
Performance & Capabilities
Powered by twin diesel Caterpillar (3512TA) 12-cylinder 1,172hp engines, motor yacht Ice Bear is capable of reaching a top speed of 15 knots, and comfortably cruises at 13 knots.
