The 35.96m expedition yacht Heysea 35m Explorer is being constructed by Chinese shipyard Heysea Yachts and is due to be delivered in 2028. Her interior design and exterior styling comes from the drawing boards of VYD Studio, while Heysea Yachts is responsible for her naval architecture.
Key Features
- 35.96m steel explorer yacht
- First Heysea explorer model
- 4,000nm cruising range
- Sub-500GT volume target
Design & Construction
Designed around a displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 8.15m beam and a 2.45m draft. The yacht has an internal volume of 350 GT (Gross Tonnes).
Exterior Design
The Heysea 35m Explorer is still in build, with the first yacht due to become the opening model in a new steel-hulled explorer range from the Chinese yard. At 35.96m (118ft), she is relatively compact for the amount of volume being carried, helped by a broad 8.15m (26.7ft) beam and a sub-500GT target.
VYD Studio has given the yacht a high, near-vertical bow and a superstructure that sits well forward, leaving a long run of open deck towards the stern. The profile is quite upright, but large dark glazing panels break up the white superstructure and visually reduce some of that height.
The bow carries useful volume rather than tapering sharply, which suits the long-range brief and should provide more internal space forward. A narrow band of horizontal glazing runs through the forward hull side, while the much larger main-deck windows sit above it and continue well aft.
The aft decks are more open. One level provides a broad terrace directly outside the upper saloon, while the deck below has another substantial exterior area closer to the water. That separation matters on a 36m explorer because tender handling, toys and guest use otherwise end up fighting for the same piece of deck.
The stern itself stays fairly simple, with a low swim platform and broad steps leading up into the main aft area. From the side, there is very little decorative shaping around it, which fits the rest of the yacht's practical, upright character.
Steel is used for the hull and aluminium for the superstructure, a familiar combination for long-range yachts because it puts the heavier material where structural strength is most useful while reducing weight higher up.
Performance & Capabilities
The Heysea 35m Explorer is being developed for long-range cruising and unrestricted navigation.
Twin 900hp main engines are specified to give a maximum speed of 14 knots, while normal economical cruising is around 10 knots.
At that speed, Heysea quotes a range of 4,000 nautical miles from 38,000 litres of fuel. Freshwater capacity is 7,000 litres.
The yacht has a design draft of 2.45m (8ft) and a quoted full-load displacement of 372.5 tonnes. Combined with the steel hull and relatively broad beam, those figures point towards a yacht designed around steady passage-making.
