Design & Construction

Designed around a planing GRP hull and superstructure she features a 6.07m beam and a 1.83m draft. The yacht is built over 2 decks.

Exterior Design

Forty Nine is built on the Princess X80 platform, a yacht that rethought what could be achieved within a 25m (82.7ft) flybridge yacht. Awarded five stars by YachtBuyer and inducted into the YachtBuyer Hall of Fame, the X80 combines the volume of a much larger yacht with the performance of a fast planing hull. Read our full Princess X80 Review for a closer look at the model.

Rather than relying on a towering superstructure, the X80 stretches its living space across two full levels, creating a long, low profile with sweeping glazing and generous deck overhangs. The bridge deck extends almost the full length of the yacht, giving Forty Nine an unusually large upper deck for a yacht of this size while keeping the proportions clean and balanced.

Outdoor spaces are spread across three distinct levels. The aft cockpit flows naturally into the main saloon through wide sliding doors, the foredeck provides a private lounge directly outside the owner's suite, and the bridge deck offers enough room for dining, lounging and entertaining without feeling crowded. Wide side decks complete the layout, making it easy to move around the yacht while preserving the open feel that defines the X Class.

Interior Design

Forty Nine's interior centres on light and space. Full-height glazing runs almost the length of the main deck, while the elevated bridge deck saloon sits above the owner's suite to create a second lounge with broad views across the horizon. Few yachts around 25m (82.7ft) offer two completely separate living rooms without compromising the accommodation below.

The main saloon remains open and sociable, with the galley positioned forward where it can either become part of the entertaining space or be closed off when crew are on duty. This flexibility is one of the X80's strongest design features, allowing owners to tailor the yacht to family cruising or more formal occasions.

Throughout the interior, Princess balances contemporary styling with practical detailing. Clean lines, large windows and carefully planned circulation give the yacht a bright, open feel that belies her length, helping make the X80 one of the most spacious yachts in her class.

Accommodation

Forty Nine accommodates up to eight guests across four en suite cabins, together with accommodation for three crew.

The standout feature is the main deck owner's suite. Positioned forward beneath the foredeck lounge, it benefits from glazing on three sides and direct access to the foredeck through a sliding side door, creating a level of privacy and connection with the outside that is rarely found on yachts of this size.

Below deck, the full-beam VIP suite amidships rivals many owner's cabins for space, with large hull windows, generous storage and its own en suite bathroom. A forward VIP and a twin guest cabin complete the accommodation, giving Forty Nine a layout that works equally well for private family cruising or entertaining several couples.

Performance & Capabilities

Twin MAN V12-2000 diesel engines, each producing 2,000hp, drive Forty Nine to a top speed of 32 knots. The planing hull combines quick acceleration with efficient cruising, giving the yacht the flexibility to cover long coastal passages at speed while remaining comfortable underway.

Performance was a key part of the X80's design from the outset. Despite offering the volume and accommodation of a much larger yacht, Princess worked with naval architect Olesinski to create a hull capable of delivering sports yacht performance without compromising interior space. The result is a yacht that stands out not only for the amount of room on board, but also for how quickly and confidently she can cover the ground.
