Design & Construction
Designed around a full displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 12.3m beam and a 3.2m draft. The yacht is built over 6 decks with an internal volume of 2,047 GT (Gross Tonnes).
The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards.
Exterior Design
Aviva's near-vertical bow adds around 9m (29.5ft) to the waterline, and it is the feature that unlocked much of what makes this 68m (223.1ft) Abeking & Rasmussen unusual. The longer hull gave Reymond Langton more room inside, while the fine entry was developed to reduce pitching and soften the yacht's motion in head seas. The extra waterline length was used to improve seakeeping, but it also freed up more room for crew accommodation and storage further forward. The hull form was developed as a complete package rather than a normal hull with a sharp bow grafted on, and the sections were carried right through to the stern to keep the yacht balanced.
The upper aft decks are wide and fairly open, with curved seating tucked into the corners and deep overhangs giving good shade below. Bright yellow umbrellas and loose furniture bring some colour into what is otherwise a fairly restrained exterior.
At water level, the stern is much more useful than the side profile suggests. A broad platform folds down behind the beach club, and the large opening above it creates a proper working and guest area at the back of the yacht. Tenders sit alongside rather than dominating the stern, so the space can stay open when the yacht is at anchor.
The foredeck is cleaner and more workmanlike. Large hatches and technical gear sit well forward, while the guest areas are pulled aft and kept separate from the working end. That division between operations and leisure is quite clear from above.
The 2024 Palumbo refit refreshed the paint and restored the teak decks, so the yacht still presents much as she did originally while carrying newer systems underneath.
Interior Design
Aviva's interior was designed by Reymond Langton around one main aim: create the space and comfort of a much larger yacht inside 68m (223.1ft).
The extra waterline length helped here, and the yacht ended up with the sort of internal volume more often associated with an 80m (262.5ft) yacht. That gave room for a large observation lounge, conference room, cinema, two dining areas, gym, massage room and beauty salon without having to squeeze the guest cabins.
A circular glass elevator sits at the centre of the yacht, wrapped by a broad staircase and carrying daylight down through all six decks. It is a useful bit of planning because it ties the decks together visually instead of making each one feel separate.
The interior itself leans more residential than theatrical. Reymond Langton worked with the owner on both exterior and interior styling, and the rooms were laid out for long stays rather than occasional showpiece use. The 2024 refit updated the accommodation and galley, while the AV, CCTV, security and navigation systems were all renewed or modernised.
Accommodation
Aviva accommodates up to 16 guests in seven suites.
The original design called for unusually large guest and VIP cabins, taking advantage of the extra volume created by the longer hull. That matters more than the cabin count alone. The yacht was deliberately built around comfort over long periods at sea, so the rooms were given more space than would normally be expected on a yacht of this length.
Crew accommodation is for up to 25, with the forward part of the yacht making use of the longer waterline to create better crew quarters and storage.
Performance & Capabilities
Aviva's hull was the big technical story when she was delivered, and it is still the most interesting part of the yacht today.
The near-vertical knife bow increased the waterline by around 9m (29.5ft) compared with a more conventional bow shape, and tank testing showed a big drop in vertical acceleration in head seas. The original data put forward acceleration at around 0.6g compared with roughly 1g for a more conventional superyacht.
The same hull also behaved well in a following sea. A deep full-length skeg and large rudders set well aft reduced yaw and cut roll by around two-thirds in model tests with a 4m (13.1ft) following sea at 45 degrees.
Twin Caterpillar 3516 diesels give Aviva a top speed of around 16 knots and a cruising speed of about 14 knots. Range is quoted at up to 6,910 nautical miles at 12 knots.
There is another clever bit of engineering aft. A 360° Schottel stern thruster can work with the autopilot at anchor, allowing the yacht to hold a chosen heading against wind and current. That means Aviva can turn herself into a swell rather than simply lying wherever conditions push her, which can make a big difference to comfort at anchor.
Amenities
The yacht features a well-equipped gym, allowing her guests to keep up their fitness regimes at sea. In addition, full cinema facilities ensure five-star entertainment. Business on board couldn't be easier, thanks to sleek conference facilities. An elevator makes the yacht fully-accessible, while air conditioning offers increased on-board comfort.
